Bangor, ME – Malcolm French, a notorious marijuana grow operator, has been brought to justice by federal authorities. In a significant victory for law and order in Maine, French and his company, Haynes Timberland, Inc., were convicted of operating a massive marijuana grow operation in Township 37.
According to U.S. Attorney Richard W. Murphy and IRS Special Agent in Charge Joel P. Garland, the operation was one of the largest of its kind in the state, and yielded over $1.1 million in criminally forfeited funds. These funds, courtesy of the U.S. Treasury’s Equitable Sharing Program, will be distributed to eight Maine law enforcement agencies who participated in the federal prosecution of French and his company.
The agencies set to receive the funds include the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency, the Maine State Police, the Maine Warden Service, the Washington County Sheriff, and the Brewer, Biddeford, Scarborough and Gorham police departments. This significant infusion of resources will undoubtedly aid these agencies in their ongoing efforts to combat the scourge of marijuana trafficking in Maine.
The conviction of Malcolm French and Haynes Timberland, Inc. marks a major milestone in the fight against organized crime in Maine. As the investigation and subsequent prosecution of this case demonstrate, federal authorities will continue to work closely with local law enforcement to disrupt and dismantle the networks of individuals and organizations involved in this illicit activity.
