Rahshim Carter, 36, Faces Up to 5 Years in Prison for Possessing Suboxone and Homemade Weapon
A federal inmate at the Federal Correctional Institution in Berlin, New Hampshire, pleaded guilty to possessing a controlled substance and a homemade weapon, authorities announced today. Rahshim Carter, 36, admitted to having Suboxone and a shank, a homemade weapon, during a search at the prison on November 24, 2016.
According to court documents, Carter was found to have a quantity of Suboxone, a controlled substance, and a shank during a health and sanitation check at the prison. He attempted to evade prison staff by running around the second tier of the unit and jumping to the first tier. Staff eventually subdued Carter and recovered the contraband.
The investigation was conducted by the staff at the Bureau of Prisons, FCI-Berlin. Assistant U.S. Attorney Don Feith is prosecuting the case.
Carter is scheduled to be sentenced on August 22, 2017, and faces up to 5 years in prison for the charges. The case highlights the ongoing struggle to maintain order and safety in prisons across the country.
