KURTIS GASKINS, Violating Sex Offender Registration, Connecticut 2020
A Waterbury man has admitted to violating a federal law requiring sex offenders to register and update their information.
KURTIS GASKINS, 46, pleaded guilty to violating the Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act (SORNA) in U.S. District Court in New Haven.
Gaskins was convicted in Massachusetts in 1992 of sexual assault offenses and failed to register as a sex offender in Connecticut after moving to the state in November 2018.
He also failed to update his sex offender registration in Massachusetts, according to court documents and statements made in court.
On October 9, 2019, the U.S. Marshals Service located and arrested Gaskins in Waterbury, Connecticut.
Judge Janet Bond Arterton scheduled sentencing for May 18, 2020, at which time Gaskins faces a maximum term of imprisonment of 10 years.
Gaskins was released on a $10,000 bond pending sentencing.
This matter is being investigated by the U.S. Marshals Service and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Nathaniel J. Gentile.
KURTIS GASKINS’s guilty plea marks the latest in a series of cases brought by U.S. Attorney John H. Durham’s office targeting individuals who fail to register as sex offenders.
