Council Bluffs Man Sentenced to over 10 Years in Prison for Possession of Child Pornography
A devastating case of child exploitation has come to a close with the sentencing of Ellis Dale Robinson, a 34-year-old man from Council Bluffs, Iowa. According to the United States Attorney for the Southern District of Iowa, Marc Krickbaum, Robinson was sentenced to 121 months in prison, followed by a term of supervised release of seven years.
The investigation into Robinson’s activities began in September 2017, when a Douglas County Sheriff’s Deputy was working undercover with the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force. The task force was investigating users sharing child pornography on a peer-to-peer file sharing network. Based on information derived from the investigation, a search warrant was executed on Robinson’s residence, and a laptop computer was seized.
The forensic exam of the laptop produced numerous links to the peer-to-peer file sharing networks, including videos and photos of child erotica and child pornography. This disturbing evidence was enough to secure Robinson’s conviction for possession of child pornography.
The case was a collaborative effort between the Douglas County Sheriff’s Department, the Omaha FBI Child Exploitation Task Force, and the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation – Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force. The United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Iowa prosecuted the case.
Robinson’s sentencing serves as a reminder of the devastating consequences of child exploitation. The production, distribution, and possession of child pornography are serious crimes that cause irreparable harm to the victims.
As the community continues to grapple with the fallout of this case, it is essential to remember the importance of protecting our children and holding those responsible for these heinous crimes accountable. The work of law enforcement agencies and prosecutors in bringing perpetrators to justice is crucial in preventing further harm and promoting a safer environment for all.
