A 31-year-old Grand Island woman has been sentenced to 9 years, 2 months in prison for possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute, according to the United States Attorney Joe Kelly.
Racquel Hamilton, 31, of Grand Island, was sentenced in federal court in Lincoln, Nebraska for her crime. Senior United States District Judge Richard G. Kopf handed down the sentence, which includes a 9-year, 2-month term of imprisonment, with no parole available in the federal system.
Following her release from prison, Hamilton will serve a four-year term of supervised release, according to officials. The incident occurred in March 2019, when the Grand Island Police Department received a tip about Hamilton’s whereabouts, leading to her arrest.
Hamilton was found to have 11 grams of pure methamphetamine in her coat pocket at the time of her arrest, along with a significant amount of U.S. currency. The methamphetamine was sent to the Nebraska State Crime Lab for testing, confirming the presence of the illicit substance.
The investigation into the case was led by the Grand Island Police Department and the Central Nebraska Drug and Safe Streets Task Force, working together to bring Hamilton to justice.
