Maggie Welling Sentenced to 15 Years for Possession of Methamphetamine, Lincoln NE, 2023

A Lincoln woman has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for her role in a methamphetamine trafficking operation. Maggie Welling, 46, was sentenced to a 15-year term of imprisonment by Senior United States District Court Judge John M. Gerrard, who also ordered her to serve 10 years of supervised release once she is released from prison. There is no parole in the federal system.

Welling pleaded guilty to her offense on November 29, 2022. She was stopped by an officer with the Lincoln Police Department on March 25, 2022 for a traffic violation. During the traffic stop, the officer observed drug paraphernalia in her vehicle. The officer then searched the car and located approximately 221 grams of methamphetamine in Welling’s purse. Those drugs were sent to the Nebraska State Patrol Crime Laboratory and were found to contain at least 210 grams of actual or pure methamphetamine.

Welling was previously convicted in the District Court of Douglas County, Nebraska of possession of methamphetamine with the intent to distribute on October 10, 2018. This previous conviction weighed heavily in the judge’s sentencing decision.

The case was investigated by the Lincoln Police Department and the Lincoln/Lancaster County Narcotics Task Force. Acting United States Attorney Susan Lehr announced the sentencing.

This case highlights the ongoing problem of methamphetamine trafficking in our community. Welling’s actions put the public at risk and demonstrate the need for continued efforts to combat this threat.
