A massive methamphetamine bust on Interstate 80 in Hamilton County, Nebraska, has landed an Arizona man behind bars for 11 years.
On November 11, 2021, a Nebraska state trooper stopped a black sedan for traffic violations, and Jared B. Cain, 41, of Phoenix, Arizona, was in the passenger seat. Cain had rented the vehicle.
During a search of the vehicle, a trooper discovered a duffle bag containing about 33 pounds of suspected methamphetamine in the trunk. The suspected methamphetamine was later analyzed at a lab and found to contain a total of approximately 14,713 grams of methamphetamine mixture. Some of the packages were tested for purity and found to contain at least 4.7 kilograms of actual methamphetamine.
Cain consented to the search of the vehicle, which led to the discovery of the massive methamphetamine haul.
According to court documents, the amount of methamphetamine discovered in the vehicle is considered a significant amount, warranting a lengthy prison sentence. United States District Judge John M. Gerrard handed down the 11-year sentence, which is equivalent to 132 months in prison.
After serving his sentence, Cain will be placed on supervised release for five years. There is no parole in the federal system.
The case was investigated by the Nebraska State Patrol.
