Dulce Maria Haros Sentenced to 16 Months for Possession With Intent to Distribute Fentanyl, Tucson AZ, 2023

A 19-year-old woman from Mexico has been sentenced to 16 months in prison for attempting to distribute over 3 kilograms of fentanyl pills across the US border.

Dulce Maria Haros, 19, of Nogales, Sonora, Mexico, pleaded guilty to Possession with Intent to Distribute Fentanyl on March 7, 2023, and was subsequently sentenced by United States District Judge Rosemary Márquez to 16 months in prison, followed by five years of supervised release.

The incident occurred on October 1, 2022, when Haros was traveling on a shuttle that stopped at a United States Border Patrol checkpoint. During a routine inspection, agents discovered a handbag containing three packages of fentanyl pills, totaling 3 kilograms in weight.

Haros admitted that the handbag was hers and that she intended to deliver the fentanyl to another person. The Drug Enforcement Administration conducted the investigation in this case, with the United States Attorney’s Office, District of Arizona, Tucson, handling the prosecution.
