Methamphetamine Trafficker Gets 51 Months
A Nebraska woman was sentenced to 51 months in prison for her role in a massive methamphetamine trafficking ring in the Omaha metropolitan area.
Lupe Cortez, 35, of Dakota City, Nebraska, was sentenced on June 22, 2015, by United States District Judge Laurie Smith Camp. Cortez had previously pled guilty to Conspiracy to Distribute more than 50 grams of Methamphetamine.
According to court documents, Cortez was involved in a conspiracy to distribute multiple pounds of methamphetamine in the South Sioux City, Nebraska, area.
Cortez will be required to serve a Term of Supervised Release of 5 years after serving her sentence.
The investigation that led to Cortez’s conviction was a joint effort between the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Nebraska State Patrol.
Cortez’s guilty plea and subsequent sentencing are a major blow to the methamphetamine trafficking ring, which had been operating in the Omaha metropolitan area for several years.
Prosecutors say that Cortez’s conviction sends a clear message that those involved in methamphetamine trafficking will be held accountable for their crimes.
