A California Man has been sentenced to 8 years in prison for a methamphetamine charge in Omaha Nebraska.
On June 13, 2023, Saul Chavez, age 20, of Indio, California, distributed approximately a pound of methamphetamine to an undercover law enforcement officer in Omaha.
Surveillance identified Chavez using a California-plated vehicle and staying at a local Omaha motel. He was stopped by an Omaha police officer on June 15, 2023, and a subsequent search of his vehicle revealed one pound of methamphetamine.
During a post-arrest interview, Chavez admitted his vehicle contained a concealed compartment. Investigators located the compartment and discovered $25,622 and over 30 pounds of methamphetamine inside.
United States Attorney Susan Lehr announced that Chavez was sentenced to 96 months’ imprisonment. He also forfeited over $25,000 seized in the investigation.
Chavez will begin a 3-year term of supervised release after his release from prison. There is no parole in the federal system.
This case was investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Omaha Police Department.
