Lincoln Man Sentenced for Possession with Intent to Distribute Methamphetamine
In a hard-hitting case, Michael Ray Ernst, 65, of Lincoln, Nebraska, has been sentenced to five years in federal prison for his role in distributing massive quantities of methamphetamine.
U.S. Attorney Steven A. Russell announced that Ernst was sentenced yesterday to five years imprisonment for possession with intent to distribute 50 grams or more of actual (pure) methamphetamine by Senior United States District Judge John M. Gerrard.
Following his release from prison, Ernst will serve four years on supervised release. There is no parole in the federal system.
The investigation that led to Ernst’s conviction began on August 30, 2021, when the Lincoln/Lancaster County Narcotics Task Force executed a search warrant at Ernst’s apartment. During the search, investigators discovered a staggering 118 grams of methamphetamine, containing at least 51 grams of actual methamphetamine, in Ernst’s bedroom.
The evidence also revealed plastic baggies, scales with residue, methamphetamine pipes, and suspected drug records. Ernst’s cell phone showed several messages between him and other individuals regarding drug sales.
The case was investigated by the Lincoln/Lancaster County Narcotics Task Force, who worked tirelessly to bring Ernst to justice. The successful prosecution is a testament to the dedication and perseverance of law enforcement agencies in the fight against methamphetamine trafficking.
