In a significant blow to the city’s narcotics trade, Pedro Adolfo Robles, 36, of Omaha, Nebraska, was sentenced to 135 months’ imprisonment for possessing with intent to distribute 500 grams or more of methamphetamine. The sentence, handed down by Chief United States District Judge Robert F. Rossiter, Jr., is a stark reminder of the consequences of trafficking in illicit substances.

According to court documents, Robles was one of several individuals involved in a large-scale methamphetamine trafficking operation. On January 29, 2020, deputies with the Seward County Sheriff’s Office conducted simultaneous traffic stops on a Ford F150 pickup truck and a tow truck hauling a Cadillac Escalade while both were traveling on I-80 in Seward County. The Escalade was found to be smuggling 27 pounds of methamphetamine.

Deputies determined that the Escalade had broken down in Hebron, Nebraska, and was being towed to Omaha, Nebraska. The owner of the Escalade, Gonzalez-Gardea, was a passenger in the F150 pickup truck. The driver of the F150 pickup truck, Rex Kmiecik, and a passenger riding with the tow truck, Pedro Robles, were also arrested. Kmiecik and Robles had driven from Omaha to help get the Escalade towed to Omaha.

Kmiecik was sentenced on September 13, 2021, to 132 months’ imprisonment. Gonzalez-Gardea was sentenced on August 23, 2021, to 135 months’ imprisonment. The investigation that led to Robles’ arrest was a collaborative effort between the Seward County Sheriff’s Office, the DEA, and the Omaha Police Department.

As part of an Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETF) operation, law enforcement agencies worked together to identify, disrupt, and dismantle the highest-level criminal organizations that threaten the United States. The OCDETF Program uses a prosecutor-led, intelligence-driven, multi-agency approach to tackle complex narcotics trafficking cases.

The case serves as a warning to those involved in the narcotics trade: the consequences of trafficking in illicit substances are severe and long-lasting. As the investigation and prosecution of narcotics cases continue to be a top priority for law enforcement agencies, individuals like Robles will face the full weight of the law.
