Crime: A Winston man was sentenced to 10 years in federal prison for his role in a massive methamphetamine trafficking operation in Douglas County, Oregon.
Steven Dwayne Lander, 60, was sentenced to 120 months in federal prison and five years’ supervised release on November 7, 2021. This marks Lander’s second stint in federal prison, as he has prior felony convictions for delivering and manufacturing controlled substances and illegally possessing a firearm as a convicted felon. He was previously sentenced to more than four years in prison.
The investigation into Lander’s activities was conducted by the Douglas County Interagency Narcotics Team (DINT) and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA). Over the course of several months, investigators executed multiple search warrants on Lander and his properties, seizing more than 15 pounds of methamphetamine and a half pound of heroin.
Lander was charged by criminal complaint on November 8, 2019, and was indicted on November 20, 2019. He pleaded guilty to possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine on November 7, 2021.
Acting U.S. Attorney Scott Erik Asphaug announced the sentencing, which was the culmination of a long and complex investigation. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Jeffrey S. Sweet in close coordination with Douglas County Senior Deputy District Attorney Allison D. Eichmann.
The investigation and prosecution of Lander’s activities are a testament to the dedication and perseverance of law enforcement agencies in Oregon. The sentencing sends a clear message that those who engage in methamphetamine trafficking will be held accountable for their crimes.
