Sex Abuse Case Rocks State
A Des Moines man has been sentenced to 25 years in federal prison for his role in the sexual exploitation of a 12-year-old Minnesota child.
Prya Reh, 24, was found guilty of enticing a minor to engage in criminal sexual activity and was sentenced to 25 years behind bars.
According to court documents, Reh met the child online in the fall of 2022 and, despite knowing the child’s age, drove from Des Moines to Minnesota to pick them up from middle school.
From there, Reh took the child to a local motel and sexually abused them. A week later, Reh returned the child to Des Moines, where he continued to abuse them in a basement bedroom.
In addition to the in-person abuse, Reh created an image of child sexual abuse material and asked the child to send him explicit pictures.
Reh was also found to possess a firearm as a felon, for which he was charged separately.
Upon completing his prison term, Reh will be required to serve five years of supervised release, with no parole available in the federal system.
Reh was also ordered to pay a special assessment of $5,000.
The case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse launched in 2006.
United States Attorney Richard D. Westphal made the announcement, crediting the Des Moines Police Department, Austin Police Department, FBI Child Exploitation Task Force, and Iowa DCI’s Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force for their roles in the investigation.
The case was prosecuted by the United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Iowa.
Project Safe Childhood is a collaborative effort between federal, state, and local authorities to identify and prosecute individuals who exploit children online and to rescue victims.
