A man who attempted to entice a minor to engage in sexual activity was sentenced April 3, 2014, to over twelve years in federal prison. Michael Glawe, age 31, formerly of Marion, Iowa, received the sentence after a December 16, 2013, guilty plea to one count of attempted enticement of a minor.
At the guilty plea hearing, Glawe admitted that, between 2010 and 2011, he attempted to entice an undercover officer who was posing as a minor to meet for the purpose of unlawful sex with a minor. This shocking admission led to a lengthy sentence, highlighting the severity of the crime.
Glawe was sentenced in Cedar Rapids by United States District Court Chief Judge Linda R. Reade. Glawe was sentenced to 151 months’ imprisonment. A special assessment of $100 was imposed, and Glawe must also serve a ten-year term of supervised release. He must comply with all sex offender registration and public notification requirements.
This case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Mark Tremmel and was investigated by the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation, the Marion Police Department, and the Clinton County Sheriff’s Office. The collaboration between these agencies ultimately led to Glawe’s conviction and sentence.
This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse. Led by the United States Attorneys’ Offices and the Criminal Division’s Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section, Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state, and local resources to locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who sexually exploit children, and to identify and rescue victims.
