Defendant Sentenced to Federal Prison for Illegal Gun Possession

Ocala, FL – In a shocking turn of events, Jordan Karod Goodman, a 23-year-old from Ocala, has been sentenced to 7 years and 8 months in federal prison for illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition. This harsh sentence comes as a result of Goodman’s guilty plea on June 10, 2024.

According to court documents, on November 13, 2023, officers from the Ocala Police Department (OPD) responded to a shooting at a convenience store. During their investigation, they observed Goodman running in the area, wearing a black ski mask. When ordered to stop, Goodman refused, leading to his eventual detention by the officers. A Glock firearm with an extended magazine was recovered from the sidewalk where Goodman had fallen.

During an interview, Goodman stated that he believed someone had been shooting at him, so he had returned fire with his handgun. However, this excuse fell flat, considering Goodman’s history of prior state felony convictions for possession of cannabis with intent to sell/deliver and carrying a concealed firearm. As a convicted felon, Goodman is prohibited from possessing firearms or ammunition under federal law.

This case was investigated by the Ocala Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. It was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Sarah Janette Swartzberg.

The case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program that aims to reduce violent crime and gun violence by bringing together all levels of law enforcement and the communities they serve. This initiative focuses on fostering trust and legitimacy in communities, supporting community-based organizations that prevent violence, setting strategic enforcement priorities, and measuring results.

Goodman’s sentence is a stark reminder of the consequences of illegal gun possession. His actions put innocent lives at risk, and his sentence serves as a warning to others who may be considering similar crimes.
