Felony Charge Foiled: Convicted Felon Caught With Loaded Firearm
Orlando, Florida – A brazen attempt to flee the scene of a suspected burglary on January 24, 2024, led to the arrest of Dominick Yvon Louissaint, a three-time convicted felon. The 20-year-old man from Lake Mary, Florida, was found carrying a loaded, concealed firearm, a box of ammunition, and two ski masks.
Louissaint’s reckless behavior sparked a heated confrontation with the Sanford Police Department, who had responded to reports of a burglary in progress. As officers gave orders to Louissaint to show his hands, he attempted to flee the scene, ultimately leading to his apprehension.
Following a thorough investigation, authorities discovered that Louissaint was in possession of a firearm and ammunition, both of which are prohibited under federal law for convicted felons. This egregious offense has earned Louissaint a 46-month prison sentence, handed down by U.S. District Judge Roy B. Dalton.
The court also ordered Louissaint to forfeit the firearm and ammunition involved in the offense. This conviction is a stark reminder of the severe consequences that await those who disregard the law and prioritize their own interests over the safety of their communities.
The case against Louissaint was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, with valuable assistance from the Sanford Police Department and the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office. Assistant United States Attorney Richard Varadan prosecuted the case, bringing Louissaint to justice for his crimes.
This conviction is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence through collaborative efforts between law enforcement and the communities they serve. By fostering trust and legitimacy, supporting community-based organizations, setting strategic enforcement priorities, and measuring results, the PSN initiative aims to create safer neighborhoods for everyone.
