A shocking 511 people were charged in one week with immigration and related crimes in Alabama, marking a disturbing new high in the state.
The U.S. Department of Justice’s U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Alabama announced the massive crackdown on immigration offenses, which saw 508 new cases filed between March 27 and April 2.
The operation, part of the larger ‘Operation Take Back America’ initiative, targeted individuals accused of immigration-related crimes along the South Texas border.
According to authorities, the massive surge in cases was the highest seen in the Southern District since the initiative’s implementation.
The cases included a range of offenses, from immigration-related crimes to human trafficking and other related charges.
As the U.S. continues to grapple with the complex issue of immigration, the record number of charges highlights the growing need for effective solutions to address the problem.
