Rashad A. Williams, 32, Sentenced to Prison on Gun Charges
A California man has been sentenced to prison after being caught carrying a gun in a mall. Rashad A. Williams, 32, of Sacramento, was sentenced to 60 months in prison, followed by three years of supervised release, after pleading guilty to being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition. According to the Department of Justice, U.S. Attorney’s Office, Williams was prohibited from possessing a firearm due to his prior felony convictions, including a 2014 conviction for second-degree robbery.
Williams was arrested on January 14, 2022, at the Savannah Town Center in Sacramento, after a security guard reported seeing him with a handgun. A search of Williams’ person revealed a loaded 9mm pistol and 15 rounds of ammunition. Williams admitted to possessing the firearm and ammunition, claiming he needed it for protection.
In a separate case, a man was sentenced to prison for firing shots in a neighborhood. Tyree L. Jackson, 41, of Oakland, was sentenced to 72 months in prison, followed by three years of supervised release, after pleading guilty to discharging a firearm in relation to a crime of violence. According to the Department of Justice, U.S. Attorney’s Office, Jackson fired shots in a residential neighborhood on May 24, 2021, after an argument with a neighbor.
Jackson was arrested on May 25, 2021, after a witness reported hearing gunfire in the area. A search of Jackson’s residence revealed a loaded 9mm pistol and a 40-caliber handgun. Jackson admitted to firing the shots, claiming he was trying to scare the neighbor.
The sentences were handed down by U.S. District Judge William B. Shubb. The cases were prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Matthew Hammond and Matthew Morris.
The Department of Justice, U.S. Attorney’s Office, credited the Sacramento Police Department and the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office with the investigation.
As a result of the sentences, two felons, including an armed career criminal, will face years in prison on gun charges, after sentencings in federal court.
