A 38-year-old Old Bridge man has been arrested and charged with producing and possessing child pornography after authorities discovered a stash of over 1,000 explicit images on his devices.
According to sources, Daniel Berwick used Snapchat to catfish two minors by posing as a 17-year-old high school student, convincing them to send him photos and videos of themselves engaged in sexual activity.
Berwick’s scheme was uncovered when one of the minors reported him to Snapchat after he threatened to send compromising photos to her family and school officials. An investigation led by the FBI found a massive collection of child pornography on Berwick’s devices, including images of prepubescent minors, infants, and toddlers.
Berwick made his initial appearance in federal court in Trenton, where he was detained pending trial. If convicted, he faces a mandatory minimum of 15 years in prison and fines of up to $250,000 for each count of producing child pornography.
