MIAMI, FL – Belas Shelson Rosier, a resident of Greenacres, Palm Beach County, is headed to federal prison for 15 years after being convicted of flooding South Florida streets with deadly fentanyl. U.S. District Judge Aileen M. Cannon handed down the sentence today, adding a five-year supervised release term to the lengthy incarceration. Rosier, a key figure in a major fentanyl trafficking operation, was found guilty of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute over 400 grams of fentanyl, alongside charges of possessing that quantity of the drug, fentanyl analogs, and cocaine.
The bust didn’t start with Rosier. Federal and local investigators initially focused on one of Rosier’s street-level distributors, a successful prosecution of whom then unraveled the larger network. Evidence presented at trial painted a picture of Rosier as a significant source, responsible for distributing at least six kilograms of fentanyl between October 4, 2021, and March 9, 2022. That’s enough to kill millions, even in small doses.
Agents didn’t just collar Rosier; they hit his pockets hard. During the investigation, federal authorities seized and forfeited over $50,000 in cash and another $50,000 worth of jewelry, directly linked to Rosier’s illicit operations. The cash and bling served as a clear indicator of the profits fueling the deadly trade, and are now off the streets.
The takedown was a joint effort. The U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Florida, Markenzy Lapointe, announced the sentencing alongside leaders from Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) Miami, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) Miami Field Division, the West Palm Beach Police Department (WPBPD), and the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office (PBSO). Special Agent in Charge Anthony Salisbury (HSI), Christopher A. Robinson (ATF), Chief Frank Adderly (WPBPD), and Sheriff Ric L. Bradshaw (PBSO) all played a role in bringing Rosier to justice.
The case was a part of the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETF) operation, a multi-agency, prosecutor-led initiative targeting high-level criminal organizations. OCDETF aims to dismantle these groups by leveraging intelligence and a coordinated approach across multiple federal, state, and local agencies. Assistant U.S. Attorney John McMillan led the prosecution, with Assistant U.S. Attorney William Zloch handling the asset forfeiture component.
Rosier’s conviction serves as a stark warning to those involved in the fentanyl trade. The ATF Miami Field Division, along with its partners, continues to aggressively pursue and prosecute individuals responsible for trafficking this deadly substance. The streets of South Florida are a little safer, but the fight against fentanyl is far from over. The sentence sends a message: peddling poison comes with a steep price.
