Batavia Child Pornography Convict Headed Back to Prison

GRIMY NEWS – Matthew Barber, 53, of Batavia, NY, a man with a sordid history involving child pornography, is staring down a fresh sentence after violating his supervised release. U.S. Attorney Trini E. Ross announced that Barber was sentenced to serve 147 months in prison for his crimes.

Barber’s initial conviction came in April 2007 when he was charged with possessing child pornography and sentenced to 74 months behind bars, followed by five years of supervised release. His supervised release was revoked in July 2017 after Barber failed sex offender treatment.

The downward spiral continued on May 20, 2020, when Barber was discovered with a cell phone and USB device containing over 1,000 images and 200 videos of child pornography. He was subsequently charged and convicted of possession of child pornography once again.

U.S. District Judge William M. Skretny handed down the latest sentence. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Aaron J. Mango and Michael DiGiacomo were responsible for handling the case.

The investigation leading to Barber’s latest conviction was a collaborative effort, involving the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Cheektowaga Police Department, Batavia Police Department, and the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision.

Barber faces a tough road ahead as he serves his sentence in the federal prison system. For readers seeking more information, contact Barbara Burns at (716) 843-5817.
