Sterlington Meth Dealer Gets 126 Months

MONROE, La. – In a gritty blow against the illegal drug trade, 24-year-old Aaron Farrar from Sterlington, Louisiana, was sentenced to 126 months in federal prison yesterday for possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute. The sentence follows his plea on August 18, 2021, stemming from an investigation that began when U.S. Postal Inspection Service agents intercepted a package en route to Farrar’s residence. Inside the package, concealed in a clock radio, agents found approximately 216 grams of methamphetamine. A search warrant executed at the residence revealed not only the meth but also a loaded handgun with an extended magazine. Agents had placed a small amount of the meth back into the package and delivered it as intended to trap Farrar.

Farrar claimed the package was meant for someone else, and he was supposed to be paid for delivering it. The U.S. Postal Inspection Service and U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration led the investigation, with Assistant U.S. Attorney J. Aaron Crawford prosecuting the case.

Another high-profile crime in Louisiana involved 27-year-old Michael James Carroll from Tallulah. Carroll was sentenced to 48 months for stealing a firearm from Tallulah Gun Sales, a federal firearms licensee in Madison Parish. On June 30, 2020, Carroll walked into the store and took a Glock pistol without permission, placing it in his waistband and leaving. During a traffic stop that same day, law enforcement recovered the stolen gun from Carroll’s vehicle. The ATF and Madison Parish Sheriff’s Office investigated the crime, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Leon H. Whitten handling the prosecution.

This pair of sentences serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing battle against drug trafficking and firearm violations in Louisiana. The efforts of law enforcement to crack down on such activities are unwavering, leading to significant jail time for those who continue to profit from or participate in illegal activities.

The sentences handed down by United States District Judge Terry A. Doughty reflect the seriousness with which federal courts view drug trafficking and firearm violations. The justice system is sending a clear message: such crimes will not be tolerated, and those responsible will face substantial punishment.
