‘Trigga’ Brown Gets 24 Years for Bronx Drug Deal Murder

NEW YORK, NY – Bryant Brown, 26, known on the streets as “Trigga,” will spend the next 24 years in federal prison for the cold-blooded murder of Albendris Nunez in a botched Bronx drug deal. The sentence, handed down yesterday by U.S. District Judge Paul A. Engelmayer, also accounts for a 2017 armed robbery conviction. The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York didn’t mince words, calling the killing “senseless.”

The December 20, 2015, shooting unfolded in Devoe Park, the Bronx, over a mere $600 worth of marijuana. According to court filings, Brown lured Nunez to the park under the guise of a drug transaction, orchestrated entirely through Facebook. Brown wasn’t interested in buying; he intended to rob Nunez, and brought a firearm to ensure compliance. Instead of a simple theft, the encounter turned fatal when Brown shot Nunez in the back, leaving him dead in the park.

“On a Sunday morning in 2015, Bryant Brown shot and killed Albendris Nunez in Devoe Park in the Bronx over $600 of marijuana,” stated U.S. Attorney Damian Williams. “For this senseless killing, Brown will serve a substantial sentence in federal prison.” The details paint a picture of a calculated, if poorly executed, crime fueled by greed and a willingness to use deadly force.

But the 2015 murder wasn’t Brown’s only brush with the law. In November 2017, Brown, along with an accomplice, robbed a victim inside a residential building in the Bronx. The target? Liquid promethazine with codeine – commonly known as “wock” or “lean.” Brown again brandished a firearm, this time using it to strike the victim in the face during the robbery. This pattern of violence clearly influenced the severity of the sentence.

Beyond the 24-year prison term, Brown will face three years of supervised release upon his eventual release. The case was handled by the Office’s Violent and Organized Crime Unit, with Assistant U.S. Attorneys Jamie Bagliebter and Mollie Bracewell leading the prosecution. Williams specifically lauded the New York City Police Department for their “outstanding investigative work” that brought Brown to justice, closing a case that has haunted the Bronx for nearly a decade.

This conviction sends a clear message: engaging in violent crimes, particularly those motivated by drug trafficking, will be met with swift and severe consequences. While justice for Albendris Nunez can never fully erase the loss, the lengthy sentence for Bryant “Trigga” Brown provides a measure of closure for the victim’s family and a warning to others contemplating similar acts of violence.
