PHOENIX, Ariz. – Jordan Antonio Sullivan, 24, of Sacaton, Arizona, will spend a significant portion of his life behind bars for a savagery that shocked even hardened investigators. Last week, U.S. District Judge Michael T. Liburdi handed down a 25-year federal prison sentence to Sullivan, followed by five years of supervised release. The sentence stems from Sullivan’s conviction on charges of Second Degree Murder and Using a Firearm During a Crime of Violence.
The brutality of the crime is chilling. On March 23, 2020, Sullivan callously shot his victim in the neck with a shotgun. But that wasn’t enough. He then struck the victim repeatedly in the back of the head with the same weapon, ensuring a maximum of damage. As if that wasn’t horrific enough, Sullivan stole the victim’s car and deliberately ran him over, a final, desperate act to confirm the kill. This wasn’t a crime of passion; it was cold-blooded execution.
This federal sentence will run after Sullivan completes an 18-year state sentence for yet another Second Degree Murder conviction – a separate murder committed in April 2020. The state case, identified as CR-2020-116748-001, demonstrates a clear pattern of violent behavior from Sullivan. Prosecutors pushed for a combined sentence that would keep Sullivan off the streets for a minimum of 43 years.
The investigation into this horrific incident was a joint effort between the Gila River Police Department and the FBI, highlighting the need for interagency cooperation in tackling violent crime within the Gila River Indian Community. Law enforcement officials painstakingly pieced together the evidence, leaving no doubt about Sullivan’s involvement in the gruesome attack.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Raynette Logan, of the District of Arizona in Phoenix, skillfully prosecuted the case, presenting a compelling narrative of Sullivan’s actions to the court. Her work ensured that justice, however delayed, was served. The sheer savagery of this crime will undoubtedly haunt the community for years to come.
CASE NUMBER: CR-22-00652-PHX-MTL. RELEASE NUMBER: 2023-010 _Sullivan. This case serves as a stark reminder of the violence that continues to plague communities and the unwavering commitment of law enforcement to bring perpetrators to justice. Sullivan’s actions were reprehensible, and his lengthy sentence reflects the gravity of his crimes.
