STARLA SHAFFER, 36, SENTENCED TO 118 MONTHS IN PRISON FOR ASSAULTING A CHILD IN MOHAVE VALLEY, ARIZONA
PHOENIX, Ariz. – In a shocking case of child abuse, 36-year-old Starla Shaffer of Mohave Valley, Arizona, has been sentenced to 118 months in prison, followed by three years of supervised release, for assaulting a 3-year-old minor victim. Shaffer pleaded guilty to Assault Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury and was sentenced on June 25, 2025, by United States District Judge Diane J. Humetewa.
The heinous crime took place between January 1, 2022, and September 21, 2022, while Shaffer was in the care of the minor victim. During this period, she repeatedly assaulted the child by shaking and striking her on the face, buttocks, chest, and back. The vicious attack caused permanent and life-threatening injuries to the innocent victim, who is also an enrolled member of the Fort Mojave Indian Tribe.
The FBI Phoenix Division’s Lake Havasu office and the Fort Mojave Police Department conducted a thorough investigation into the case, gathering evidence that led to Shaffer’s guilty plea and subsequent sentencing. Assistant U.S. Attorney Christina J. Reid-Moore handled the prosecution, ensuring that justice was served in this disturbing case.
