Beaumont Gun Man Sentenced to Federal Prison

BEAUMONT, Texas – In a gritty turn of events, 28-year-old Jared Javon Bias has been sentenced to federal prison for a heinous firearms violation in the Eastern District of Texas. U.S. Attorney Brit Featherston made the announcement today.

Bias, who pleaded guilty on March 2, 2022, to possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, was handed a sentence of 96 months by U.S. District Judge Marcia A. Crone on Feb. 14, 2023.

The court docket reveals that on Jan. 21, 2021, Bias was arrested for parole violation. During the arrest, officials noticed Bias attempting to conceal an object. Subsequent investigation uncovered a backpack containing a loaded semiautomatic firearm in the back seat of his vehicle. Bias was subsequently indicted by a federal grand jury on Aug. 4, 2021.

This case is part of the Department of Justice’s Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) Program, an initiative that has proven effective at tackling violent crime. PSN brings together various stakeholders to combat local crime problems and implement lasting solutions. Under this program, Bias was targeted for his role as a violent offender, with efforts also focused on collaboration with prevention and reentry programs.

Investigation of the case was led by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) in partnership with the Beaumont Police Department. The prosecution was handled by Assistant U.S. Attorney Rachel Grove.
