Bangor Felon Sentenced for Gun Possession

BANGOR, Maine — A Bangor man has been handed a three-year sentence for his role in a shooting incident that shocked the local community. Toman Caudill, 31, was sentenced today by U.S. District Judge John A. Woodcock, Jr., following his conviction for being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition.

Caudill’s troubles began last September when Bangor Police Department officers were called to a residential area where shots had been fired. Thanks to a quick-thinking bystander, Caudill was apprehended, and officers discovered a box of 9mm ammunition stashed in his backpack. Further investigation revealed that the defendant had discharged a Ruger 9mm pistol and handed it to his fiancée as law enforcement approached.

Caudill’s excuse for the shooting? An altercation with another male. The Ruger 9mm pistol, along with the ammunition, was recovered and seized by authorities.

Despite being prohibited from possessing firearms or ammunition due to multiple prior felony convictions, Caudill pleaded guilty on January 17, 2024. His sentence includes 36 months in prison, followed by three years of supervised release.

The investigation into the case was a joint effort between the Bangor Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF).

Caudill’s conviction underscores the serious consequences faced by felons who continue to flout gun laws, even in the face of multiple prior offenses. The community remains on edge as law enforcement continues its efforts to keep firearms out of the hands of those who pose a threat.
