ELKINS, WEST VIRGINIA – In a brazen display of disregard for the law, 35-year-old Wesley Shane Haggerty of Cabins, West Virginia, has admitted to the unlawful possession of a firearm. This egregious crime is a stark reminder of the dangers posed by individuals who refuse to respect the law.
According to court documents and statements made in court, Pendleton County Sheriff’s deputies were called to a home on a report of a man waving a gun. When officers arrived, Haggerty fled on foot with a pistol and was arrested after a short chase. This reckless behavior is a testament to Haggerty’s blatant disregard for the safety of those around him.
Haggerty is prohibited from having firearms because of seven prior felony convictions and two misdemeanor domestic battery convictions. It is astounding that an individual with such a extensive history of violence would be so reckless as to possess a firearm, putting innocent lives at risk.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives and the Pendleton County Sheriff’s Office investigated this case, bringing Haggerty to justice. Assistant U.S. Attorney Stephen Warner is prosecuting the case on behalf of the government, seeking to hold Haggerty accountable for his actions.
U.S. Magistrate Judge Michael John Aloi presided over the proceedings, ensuring that justice is served. Haggerty now faces up to 15 years in prison, a sentence that is a fitting punishment for his crimes. The people of West Virginia demand that those who break the law be held accountable, and it is the duty of law enforcement to ensure that justice is served.
The consequences of Haggerty’s actions are far-reaching, and it is a sobering reminder of the dangers posed by individuals who refuse to respect the law. As a society, we must stand together to demand that those who break the law be held accountable, and that justice is served.
