Sledge Man Sentenced to 20 Years for Threatening Mail Carrier

A Sledge man has been thrown behind bars for threatening a mail carrier with a dangerous weapon. Henry Weaver, 47, was sentenced to 20 years in prison after being convicted of threatening a mail carrier with a dangerous weapon.

Weaver, a 47-year-old man from Sledge, Mississippi, was convicted in federal court on February 13, 2024, of one count of threatening a mail carrier with a dangerous weapon. The threat occurred in Marks, Mississippi, on April 23, 2022.

The crime was investigated by the U.S. Postal Inspection Service and the Quitman County Sheriff’s Office. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Robert Mims. Weaver was taken into custody in April 2022 and has been held without bond since then.

U.S. Attorney Clay Joyner commended the U.S. Postal Inspection Service for their work on the investigation and for helping to protect the community from the defendant. “We will not tolerate threats of violence against mail carriers while they are simply doing their jobs,” Joyner said.

Weaver was sentenced to 240 months in prison followed by three years of supervised release. He was remanded to the U.S. Marshals to begin serving his sentence immediately.

The U.S. Postal Inspection Service has been working tirelessly to protect mail carriers and the public from threats like these. This case is a reminder that threats of violence will not be tolerated and those who commit such crimes will be held accountable.
