Timothy Jarrett Brown, Felon in Possession, West Virginia 2023

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – Timothy Jarrett Brown, 43, of Charleston, was caught with his hand in the cookie jar, and now he’s facing the music.

A law enforcement officer had to take a hard look at Brown’s life after conducting a traffic stop in the Jefferson area of Kanawha County on June 24, 2023. The officer’s keen eye spotted a Smith & Wesson model SW40VE .40-caliber semiautomatic pistol and 9mm ammunition in the vehicle, along with a small amount of methamphetamine in Brown’s person.

Brown knew he was a prohibited owner, having a prior felony conviction for possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, heroin, in Kanawha County Circuit Court on January 31, 2020. It’s clear that Brown’s history of crime hasn’t taught him a lesson.

United States Attorney Will Thompson made it clear that Brown’s actions won’t be taken lightly, stating that the investigative work of the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) was instrumental in bringing Brown to justice.

Brown is scheduled to be sentenced on September 5, 2024, and faces a maximum penalty of 15 years in prison, up to three years of supervised release, and a $250,000 fine. It’s time for Brown to face the consequences of his actions.

Chief United States District Judge Thomas E. Johnston presided over the hearing, and Assistant United States Attorney Alexander A. Redmon is prosecuting the case. Brown’s fate is now in the hands of the court, and it remains to be seen what sentence he’ll receive. One thing is for sure – Brown’s life is about to change in a big way.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of West Virginia has made a copy of the press release available on their website, and related court documents and information can be found on PACER by searching for Case No. 2:23-cr-203.
