Devieon Jermaine-Oliver Irvin, a 21-year-old felon from Cedar Rapids, Iowa, was caught with a loaded gun in his residence in Marion, Iowa, on March 13, 2025. While investigating a theft, police officers discovered that Irvin was sending text messages to a 13-year-old juvenile, discussing providing the minor with drugs. Irvin, who was on state probation at the time, was found to be in possession of the firearm, a serious crime for a convicted felon.
On December 3, 2025, Irvin pleaded guilty to possession of a firearm as a felon. He was sentenced on May 7, 2026, to 51 months in federal prison by United States District Court Chief Judge C.J. Williams in Cedar Rapids. In addition to his prison term, Irvin will also serve a three-year term of supervised release.
The case was investigated by the Marion Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Nicole L. Nagin. This case is part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative aimed at protecting communities from violent crime and transnational criminal organizations.
Irvin is currently being held in the United States Marshal’s custody until he can be transported to a federal prison to begin serving his sentence. The outcome of this case serves as a reminder of the serious consequences of illegally possessing a firearm, particularly for convicted felons.
