A 36-year-old Cedar Rapids man’s twisted game of terrorizing a victim online has landed him 2 years in federal prison. Kyle Cook repeatedly threatened to kill a victim via Facebook Messenger between May and June 2025, with some of the threats so graphic they made agents’ skin crawl.
Cook’s threats didn’t stop even after he was arrested and being transported to a court hearing. He told federal agents he was going to kill the victim and bury her ‘six feet in the ground.’
This isn’t Cook’s first rodeo. He has an alarming 21 adult convictions, including violent convictions for battery, disorderly conduct, domestic abuse, and assault causing bodily injury.
On October 31, 2025, Cook pleaded guilty to one count of interstate communications with a threat to injure. He was sentenced in Cedar Rapids by United States District Court Chief Judge C.J. Williams to 24 months’ imprisonment and 3 years of supervised release. There’s no parole in the federal system.
