Registered Sex Offender Jailed for Child Porn Possession

A 52-year-old Des Moines, Washington, man, who is a registered sex offender, has been indicted for possession of images of child sexual abuse. Edward James Creed’s possession of the images was discovered in March 2024 during a community corrections review of his phone.

Creed was under Washington State Department of Corrections supervision at the time of the discovery. He was found to have unapproved electronic devices in his residence, in addition to the images of child sexual abuse on his phone.

According to records filed in the case, Creed previously served nearly ten years in state custody for a 2008 Kitsap County conviction for rape of a child. He was released in 2017 but was returned to custody for a time in 2019.

Creed faces a mandatory minimum ten-year sentence if convicted. He will be arraigned on the charge next week. The charges contained in the indictment are only allegations, and Creed is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.

The case is being investigated by Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) and the Washington State Department of Corrections. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Cecelia Gregson.

Creed’s prior conviction and current charges demonstrate the ongoing threat he poses to public safety. His possession of images of child sexual abuse is a serious offense that will be pursued to the fullest extent of the law. The public has the right to know when individuals with a history of violent crimes pose a risk to their communities.

As the investigation and prosecution of Creed continue, the public can expect to see a full accounting of his crimes and the measures being taken to hold him accountable. The people of Washington deserve to live in a safe community, free from the threat of child predators like Edward James Creed.
