LAS VEGAS – In a stunning victory against digital piracy, a federal jury in Las Vegas convicted five men for operating Jetflicks, one of the largest unauthorized streaming services in the U.S. The defendants’ operation generated millions of dollars from stolen television content.
Starting as early as 2007, Kristopher Dallmann, Douglas Courson, Felipe Garcia, Jared Jaurequi, and Peter Huber used complex computer scripts to pirate TV episodes and host them on Jetflicks servers. Their database surpassed the combined libraries of Netflix, Hulu, Vudu, and Amazon Prime.
“The defendants’ scheme generated millions in criminal profits, while causing significant harm to copyright owners,” said Principal Deputy Assistant Attorney General Nicole M. Argentieri. “These convictions demonstrate our commitment to protecting intellectual property rights.”
U.S. Attorney Jason M. Frierson emphasized the importance of combating intellectual property theft: “This case is a testament to our dedication to hold accountable those who violate intellectual property rights laws.”
Assistant Director David Sundberg of the FBI Washington Field Office highlighted the severity of digital piracy: “The defendants automated the theft of TV shows and attempted to disguise their operation. Digital piracy is not victimless, and we will investigate those who profit from illegal content.”
The jury convicted all five men of conspiracy to commit criminal copyright infringement. Dallmann faces up to 48 years in prison for his additional charges of money laundering by concealment and misdemeanor criminal copyright infringement. Sentencing dates have yet to be set.
