Borum Pleads Guilty to Armed Carjacking

Washington – The grim tale of James Borum’s armed carjackings took a legal turn today as the 21-year-old pleaded guilty in the Superior Court of the District of Columbia. Borum, a resident of Washington, DC, admitted to committing several high-stakes carjacking incidents that terrorized the city in January 2021.

According to reports, on the night of January 12, 2021, just after midnight, Borum and his crew descended upon an unsuspecting victim outside his Northwest DC home. Threatening a firearm, they demanded keys to the victim’s car, making a quick getaway in the stolen vehicle.

The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) was swift to respond. Falcon-1, MPD’s helicopter, tracked the speeding car to Mount Rainier, Maryland. In a dramatic turn of events, the car struck a utility pole and flipped, allowing Borum to flee but not escape justice as he was soon apprehended by MPD officers.

Today’s guilty plea means Borum faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 15 years for armed carjacking. Sentencing is set for August 30, 2024, under the watchful eye of Judge Lynn Leibovitz.

The case was meticulously investigated by the Metropolitan Police Department and prosecuted with determination by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Benjamin Helfand and Richard Carlton.

This conviction sends a stark message: Washington, DC is serious about combating violent crime on its streets.
