WASHINGTON D.C. – Another name added to the growing list of those facing justice for the January 6th insurrection. David Michael Camden, 45, of Tontitown, Arkansas, is facing serious federal charges after allegedly attacking law enforcement officers during the breach of the U.S. Capitol. His actions, along with those of hundreds of others, directly disrupted the certification of the 2020 presidential election.
Camden is charged with felony offenses of assaulting, resisting, or impeding certain officers and civil disorder, according to a criminal complaint filed in the District of Columbia. The feds aren’t stopping there. He’s also facing a slew of misdemeanor counts: entering and remaining in a restricted building or grounds, disorderly and disruptive conduct in a restricted building or grounds, engaging in physical violence in a restricted building or grounds, disorderly conduct in a Capitol building, and act of physical violence in the Capitol grounds or buildings. A full house of charges for a single day of chaos.
The FBI collared Camden today in Fayetteville, Arkansas, and he’s expected to make his first court appearance in the Western District of Arkansas. Court documents paint a picture of escalating aggression. Investigators say Camden was spotted on January 6th, 2021, approaching a barricade on the West Front of the Capitol, yelling at officers and then actively pushing a bike rack into the police line – a clear attempt to break through. Officers responded with force, deploying a chemical irritant to stop him.
But Camden didn’t stop there. The documents allege he stuck around as the riot spiraled out of control. Around 2:11 p.m., he allegedly unleashed a fire extinguisher towards a line of police. Then, escalating things further, he climbed a media tower intended for the upcoming Inauguration and brazenly waved a “Three Percenters” flag – a symbol of an American far-right, anti-government militia – over the heads of the rioting mob. This wasn’t just a protest; it was a deliberate act of defiance and intimidation.
The prosecution is being handled by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia and the Department of Justice National Security Division’s Counterterrorism Section, with assistance from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Arkansas. The investigation is a joint effort between the FBI’s Little Rock and Washington Field Offices, with crucial support from the U.S. Capitol Police and the Metropolitan Police Department. Camden was previously identified as BOLO #286 on the FBI’s wanted list.
This arrest brings the total number of individuals charged in connection with the January 6th breach to over 1,450, spanning nearly all 50 states. More than 500 of those charged face felony counts for assaulting or impeding law enforcement. The investigation is far from over. Anyone with information is urged to contact the FBI at 1-800-CALL-FBI (800-225-5324) or submit tips online at tips.fbi.gov. Remember, a criminal complaint is just an accusation, and Camden is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
