HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The grimy streets of Huntington were witness to a pivotal plea deal as Douglas Lee Brown, also known as ‘Wiggles,’ pleaded guilty to being a felon in possession of a firearm. The 56-year-old Ohio native’s dark history was once again highlighted when he was nabbed on domestic battery and wanton endangerment warrants.
On April 18, 2024, law enforcement’s keen eyes turned to Brown, uncovering a loaded Taurus model G2C 9mm pistol in his waistband. The weapon, it transpired, was reported stolen, marking another chapter in the saga of this repeat offender.
Brown’s illegal possession was rooted in a prior felony conviction for burglary, back in November 2012, when he stood before the Franklin County, Ohio, Common Pleas Court. Despite knowing his rights were revoked due to this conviction, Brown ignored the federal ban on firearm ownership by felons.
With a long criminal history and currently under supervision following a burglary conviction, Brown’s latest offense landed him in hot water. His sentencing is set for October 20, 2025, where he faces up to 15 years in prison, three years of supervised release, and a $250,000 fine.
Lisa G. Johnston, Acting United States Attorney, hailed the collaborative efforts of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), Huntington Police Department, and the Huntington Violent Crime and Drug Task Force. The hearing was presided over by United States District Judge Robert C. Chambers, with Assistant United States Attorney Courtney L. Finney leading the prosecution.
This case is a testament to Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), an initiative aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence, fostering trust in communities, and ensuring safer neighborhoods for all.
