Manchester Predator Ayala Admits to Years of Abuse

HARTFORD, CT – Hernan Ayala, 33, of Manchester, has admitted to a horrific pattern of sexual abuse against a minor, pleading guilty today in Hartford federal court to charges of possession and production of child pornography. The case, a chilling example of long-term predatory behavior, stems from an investigation launched in March 2024 after Manchester Police received a disturbing complaint.

According to court documents, Ayala subjected the minor female victim to sexual conduct for over eight years. The abuse wasn’t confined to the acts themselves; Ayala brazenly recorded the abuse on his cellphone, creating a trove of depraved content. A search of Ayala’s residence on March 9, 2024, yielded multiple electronic devices, with the iPhone proving to be a digital vault of exploitation.

United States Attorney David X. Sullivan announced the guilty plea, detailing the evidence uncovered during the forensic analysis of the seized phone. Investigators found a disturbing number of videos and images depicting Ayala’s sexual abuse of the victim. Ayala waived his right to a grand jury indictment, opting to directly admit guilt to the charges against him. He has been held in custody since his initial arrest on related state charges.

Ayala now faces a substantial prison sentence. He pleaded guilty to one count of possession of child pornography, carrying a maximum of 10 years behind bars. More damning, he also admitted to production of child pornography, a charge that mandates a minimum of 15 years imprisonment, with a potential maximum of 30 years. U.S. District Judge Vernon D. Oliver is scheduled to deliver the sentence on September 30.

The investigation was a collaborative effort, spearheaded by Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) and the Manchester Police Department, with crucial support from the Glastonbury Police Department and the Connecticut Center for Digital Investigations. Assistant United States Attorney Nancy V. Gifford is prosecuting the case. Sullivan specifically thanked the State’s Attorney’s Offices for the Judicial Districts of Hartford and Tolland for their cooperation.
