Casper Felon Shawn Flett Sentenced for Gun Possession

Shawn Richard Flett, a 38-year-old resident of Casper, Wyoming, has been handed a severe sentence for being a felon in possession of a firearm. The U.S. Attorney’s Office in Wyoming has imposed a 34-month prison term followed by three years of supervised release on Flett.

Court records reveal that the Casper Police Department responded to a domestic disturbance involving Flett on October 2, 2024. During the subsequent investigation, authorities discovered that Flett was in possession of a firearm, a violation of his rights as a convicted felon. The weapon was reportedly given to him to settle a debt.

According to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF), the Casper Police Department and ATF worked together to investigate this serious offense. Assistant U.S. Attorney Paige Hammer took the case to court, filing a complaint on February 4, 2024. Flett waived his right to an indictment and pleaded guilty to the charges on April 15.

On July 8, 2024, U.S. District Court Judge Scott W. Skavdahl presided over the sentencing in Casper. The case number is 24-00062.
