WASHINGTON – Lamar Redfield, 34, a District of Columbia resident with a rap sheet as long as his arm, was locked away today for 65 months after he stole a car, led police on a high-speed chase, and landed himself in hot water when he punched an officer. The U.S. Attorney Jeanine Ferris Pirro announced the sentence, which comes after Redfield admitted to illegal firearm possession.
It all started on October 21, 2024, when MPD Sixth District Crime Suppression Team members noticed a stolen black Hyundai Sonata on Minnesota Ave. SE. The car reversed down A Street, SE, and the passenger bailed out, leaving Redfield at the wheel. He crashed into a parked vehicle, dumped a loaded Glock 17 pistol, and took off running.
Redfield’s chase included a dramatic display of bravado as he repeatedly reached for his jacket pocket. When officers finally caught up to him, Redfield socked one officer in the face before being subdued. A search incident to his arrest yielded half an ounce of methamphetamine and one ounce of synthetic cannabinoids.
Redfield’s previous convictions on narcotics and firearms offenses in Arlington County, Virginia, didn’t help his case. He was serving a suspended sentence when he was rearrested for the October crime. Assistant U.S. Attorney Emory V. Cole prosecuted the case.
This gritty incident underscores the continuing threat of repeat offenders on probation who thumb their noses at the justice system. The Metropolitan Police Department and FBI Washington Field Office collaborated to bring Redfield to justice.
