Louisiana Man Accused in Jefferson County Crime Spree

BEAUMONT, TX – A wave of violence ripped through Jefferson County last October, allegedly at the hands of Bracelon Armon Charles, 22, of Sunset, Louisiana. Federal prosecutors have now hit the suspect with a six-count indictment, detailing a brazen spree of carjackings, a shooting, and a botched convenience store robbery.

According to the indictment unsealed this week, Charles, along with a juvenile accomplice, allegedly began their rampage with an attempted carjacking in Beaumont. When the victim resisted, Charles allegedly opened fire, wounding the owner before fleeing the scene. The duo didn’t stop there. They allegedly moved on to Port Arthur, where they successfully carjacked another vehicle. The crime spree culminated in an attempted robbery of a Beaumont convenience store.

Acting U.S. Attorney Jay R. Combs announced the charges, which include two counts of carjacking, two counts of brandishing or using a firearm during a violent crime, and Hobbs Act robbery. If convicted on all counts, Bracelon Armon Charles faces a potential sentence of up to 30 years in federal prison. The indictment paints a picture of calculated violence, leaving a trail of fear and disruption across multiple communities.

This case isn’t being handled in isolation. It’s part of “Operation Take Back America,” a sweeping federal initiative aimed at dismantling transnational criminal organizations and tackling violent crime nationwide. The operation leverages resources from the Department of Justice’s Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETFs) and Project Safe Neighborhood (PSN), signaling a heightened focus on aggressive prosecution of violent offenders.

The investigation was a collaborative effort, spearheaded by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF), and bolstered by the Beaumont Police Department, the Port Arthur Police Department, and the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office. Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Tommy Coleman is handling the prosecution. While the charges are serious, it’s crucial to remember that an indictment is not a declaration of guilt.

Bracelon Armon Charles is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law. The Grimy Times will continue to follow this case and provide updates as the legal proceedings unfold. This investigation underscores the ongoing struggle against violent crime and the commitment of federal and local agencies to protect communities from predatory individuals.
