MONTGOMERY, AL – James Walker, 35, of Enterprise, Alabama, is headed to federal prison after being sentenced to 43 months for his part in a ruthless fentanyl distribution scheme. The sentence, handed down on September 16, 2025, reflects the gravity of a conspiracy that pumped deadly synthetic opioids into the heart of Alabama.
Acting United States Attorney Kevin Davidson revealed that Walker pleaded guilty earlier this year to conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute fentanyl. He’ll serve three years of supervised release after completing his prison term – a cold comfort considering there’s no parole in the federal system. This wasn’t a street-level hustle; this was a calculated effort to flood the Middle District of Alabama with poison.
The investigation, launched in March 2023 by the FBI and the United States Postal Inspection Service, uncovered a network funneling fentanyl from California. Walker wasn’t operating alone. Court records identify 33-year-old Shanarion Lee of La Mesa, California, and 32-year-old Hillary Lewis of Lemon Grove, California, as co-conspirators. The trio allegedly used the mail to ship the deadly substance to multiple addresses across Alabama.
Throughout 2023 and 2024, federal agents intercepted several packages containing counterfeit pills designed to mimic oxycodone. But the resemblance ended there. Lab tests confirmed the pills were laced with fentanyl – a substance far more potent and dangerous than its prescription counterpart. These weren’t mistakes; these were deliberate attempts to maximize profit at the expense of human life.
Shanarion Lee already received a 46-month prison sentence for their involvement. Hillary Lewis is scheduled to be sentenced on October 2, 2025, facing a similar fate. The investigation highlights the relentless flow of fentanyl from the West Coast and the devastating impact it’s having on communities nationwide. The Enterprise Police Department provided valuable assistance to the FBI and U.S. Postal Inspection Service throughout the investigation.
Assistant United States Attorney Paul Markovits prosecuted the case, building a solid case against Walker and his accomplices. This conviction sends a message – those who profit from peddling fentanyl will face the full force of federal law. But the fight is far from over. The demand for these drugs remains high, and new networks will inevitably emerge. Grimy Times will continue to track these cases and expose the individuals responsible for fueling the opioid crisis.
