GRIMY TIMES EXCLUSIVE: In a stunning revelation from Muskogee, Oklahoma, James Michael Young, Jr., 43, of Bunch, has entered a guilty plea for Felon in Possession of Firearm and Ammunition. The charge carries a possible sentence of up to 15 years in federal prison and a $250,000 fine.
Young was caught with an astonishing 244 firearms and 40 rounds of ammunition on October 29, 2024, despite having prior convictions for crimes punishable by over one year’s imprisonment. The Oklahoma man now faces the harsh reality of his actions after being indicted by the United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Oklahoma.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) led the investigation that uncovered Young’s illegal arsenal. U.S. Magistrate Judge Gerald L. Jackson has accepted his guilty plea and ordered a presentence investigation report to be completed.
Jonathan E. Soverly, Assistant U.S. Attorney, represented the United States in the case. A U.S. District Court Judge will ultimately determine Young’s sentence based on the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other legal factors.
While awaiting sentencing, Young remains on bond with stringent release conditions. His plea deal marks a significant victory for law enforcement efforts to curb illegal firearms in Oklahoma.
This case serves as a stark reminder of the dangers posed by individuals who possess weapons they are legally prohibited from owning. The public can expect continued vigilance from federal authorities in their fight against gun violence and illegal firearm possession.
