Robert Leroy Crawley, Felon in Possession of Firearm, Oklahoma 2015

MUSKOGEE, OKLAHOMA – A gritty tale of law enforcement’s vigilance emerges as Robert Leroy Crawley, a 37-year-old resident of Oklahoma City, is meted out a decade behind bars by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Oklahoma.

Crawley has been sentenced to 120 months imprisonment, or a full ten years, for Felon in Possession of Firearm, a violation of Title 18, United States Code, Sections 922(g)(1), 924(a)(2) and 924(e)(1).

The charges stem from an October 20, 2015 incident within the Eastern District of Oklahoma. According to the Indictment, Crawley, having been previously convicted of a crime carrying a prison term exceeding one year, knowingly possessed a firearm that had traversed state lines, in and affecting commerce.

This conviction marks the culmination of an extensive investigation led by the Hugo Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The court proceedings were presided over by the Honorable James H. Payne, District Judge for the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Oklahoma in Muskogee.

Upon conclusion of the hearing, Crawley will be transported to a federal facility where he will serve his nonparoleable sentence under the watchful eye of the United States Marshals Service.

The prosecution was handled by Assistant United States Attorney Dean Burris on behalf of the United States. This latest sentencing serves as a stark reminder of the severity with which firearms violations are treated in Oklahoma and across the nation.
