Convicted Felon Sentenced for Gun Possession
A 36-year-old Blytheville man has been sentenced to 37 months in prison for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, according to court documents.
Timothy Sweet, a resident of Blytheville, Arkansas, pleaded guilty to the charge and was sentenced by United States District Judge Stephen N. Limbaugh, Jr.
The charges stem from a traffic stop conducted by an officer with the Steele, Missouri Police on November 14, 2019. The officer pulled over Sweet for failing to stop at a stop sign and observed him making movements that suggested he was attempting to conceal something underneath his seat.
During the stop, the officer looked underneath the driver’s seat and found a firearm, identified as an Arminius, Model HW, .38 caliber revolver.
Sweet’s prior conviction for the felony offense of Distribution of a Controlled Substance in the Circuit Court of Dunklin County, Missouri, made him ineligible to possess firearms.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Steele Police Department investigated the case, with Assistant United States Attorney Julie Hunter handling the prosecution.
Sweet’s sentence serves as a reminder of the consequences of violating federal laws related to firearms possession.
