Seneca Harrison, Unlawful Firearm Possession, Missouri 2018

KANSAS CITY, MO – Seneca Harrison, 36, of the Kansas City area, is facing a lengthy stretch behind bars after being sentenced in federal court today for illegally possessing a firearm. Harrison received seven years and eight months in federal prison without the possibility of parole, a harsh sentence reflecting a pattern of violent behavior and disregard for the law.

The case stems from an April 9, 2018, traffic stop in Blue Springs, Missouri, when a police officer observed Harrison driving a silver GMC Yukon. Instead of cooperating, Harrison bolted from his vehicle, forcing the officer to pursue him. A physical altercation ensued, with Harrison resisting arrest and even pushing the officer. The smell of alcohol was immediately apparent, and later testing revealed a blood alcohol content nearly double the legal limit. But the real trouble wasn’t the drunk driving – it was what officers found in the Yukon.

A loaded Maverick by Mossberg 12-gauge pump action pistol grip shotgun was discovered in the driver’s seat, with its serial number deliberately obliterated. Harrison’s criminal history quickly came into focus. He wasn’t just any felon; he was a repeat offender. Court documents reveal two prior felony convictions for burglary, along with previous convictions for unlawful possession of a firearm, stealing, unlawful use of a weapon, and possession of marijuana. He was, in fact, on parole for illegally possessing a firearm at the time of this latest offense. This wasn’t a first mistake; it was a continuation of a dangerous pattern.

The chaos didn’t end with the arrest. While being transported to jail, Harrison kicked the rear door of the patrol vehicle, spewing profanities and threatening officers. At the jail, the belligerent behavior continued, with Harrison unleashing a barrage of threats and curses. Inside his holding cell, he attempted to flush a plastic baggie containing an unidentified white powder down the toilet. An empty prescription pill bottle containing methamphetamine residue was also recovered, with Harrison brazenly admitting, “Oh yeah that’s mine. It’s got my name on it.” He refused a breath test, requiring a trip to St. Mary’s Hospital for a blood draw.

Perhaps most chillingly, while at the hospital, Harrison made a disturbing statement: “I’m kinda glad you guys got me. You knew I was going to kill someone tomorrow. I was about to go away for a long time.” He repeated this sentiment multiple times, suggesting a clear intent to commit further violence. Prosecutors presented evidence of even earlier violent acts, including breaking into an occupied residence in 2008 and pointing a firearm at the occupants, as well as threatening an estranged girlfriend and firing a gun into her home in 2016. Numerous other incidents of aggressive and threatening behavior were also documented, including altercations with law enforcement and retail employees.

Harrison also faces separate charges in Jackson County Circuit Court related to the initial drunk driving incident and other offenses stemming from the traffic stop. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Matthew Moeder and Ashleigh Ragner, with investigation led by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Blue Springs Police Department. This sentencing is part of the Department of Justice’s Project Safe Neighborhoods initiative, aimed at reducing gun violence and holding criminals accountable. Harrison’s lengthy sentence sends a clear message: illegally possessing a firearm, especially with a history of violence, will not be tolerated.
