Michael Lamont Miller, Sr., Illegal Firearms Possession, Missouri 2024

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — In a tough stance against gun crime, Michael Lamont Miller, Sr., a nine-time convicted felon from St. Louis, Mo., has been sentenced to 110 months in federal prison for illegal firearms possession.

The sentence, handed down by U.S. District Judge Douglas Harpool, includes three years of supervised release following his state sentences. The judge ordered the federal term to be served consecutively, ensuring Miller will spend an extended period behind bars.

Miller’s crime spree came to light on March 30, 2022, when he was stopped for a traffic infraction in Christian County, Mo. Upon police inquiry, Miller confessed that a firearm would be found in his vehicle. Law enforcement discovered a Springfield-Armory XDS 9mm semi-automatic, loaded with a magazine and a round chambered. Illegal substances were also recovered near the gun.

Under federal law, felons are forbidden from possessing firearms or ammunition, and Miller’s sentence underscores the severity of this offense. Assistant U.S. Attorney Patrick Carney prosecuted the case, which was investigated by multiple agencies including ATF, Branson Police, Christian County Sheriff’s Department, and the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

This sentencing is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a comprehensive initiative aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence across the nation. Launched in May 2021, PSN enhances community trust and supports organizations that prevent violence at its root.
