A Rapid City, South Dakota man, Maurice ‘Mo’ Wilford, has been sentenced to federal prison for possessing firearms as a prohibited person.
According to Acting United States Attorney Dennis R. Holmes, Wilford, 34, was sentenced to 7 years in federal prison on June 4, 2021, for his conviction on the charge of Possession of a Firearm by a Prohibited Person.
The conviction stems from an incident in August 2017, during which Wilford, a previously convicted felon, was found to be in possession of four rifles and a pistol.
Wilford’s sentence includes 7 years in federal prison, followed by 3 years of supervised release, and a $100 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund.
The case is being prosecuted as part of the joint federal, state, and local Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) Program, which aims to reduce violent crime through a comprehensive approach that includes enforcement efforts and prevention programs.
The investigation into Wilford’s case was conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, the South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation, and the Rapid City Police Department.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Eric Kelderman prosecuted the case.
Maurice ‘Mo’ Wilford is currently in the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service.
