Heroin Trafficker Gets 14 years, 6 months

A St. Anne man has been sentenced to over 14 years in federal prison for trafficking heroin and possessing a firearm as a convicted felon.

JB Brown, Jr., 37, also known as Cocoa, was sentenced to 174 months in prison and will remain on supervised release for eight years after serving his sentence.

The harsh sentence was handed down after a jury convicted Brown in July 2014 for possession of more than 100 grams of heroin, which he intended to distribute, and a loaded Glock .45 caliber semi-automatic pistol in 2013.

The investigation was conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, the Kankakee Area Project Safe Neighborhoods Task Force, and the Kankakee County Major Crimes Task Force.

Brown’s lawyer had requested a lenient sentence, but the court increased his advisory sentencing guideline range after finding that he committed perjury during his trial testimony in July.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Eugene L. Miller prosecuted the case, which was announced by Jim Lewis, U.S. Attorney for the Central District of Illinois.
